To tie in with the centenary of Muriel Spark’s birth this year, Spy Week spotlights the role of spies, espionage and secrecy in the celebrated novelist’s life and work. Spark was recruited into the department of Political Intelligence in MI6 during WWII, to work in ‘black propaganda’ and psychological warfare. The NLS’s Spark archivist Colin McIlroy will chair a discussion with three leading academics to explore how spying and secrecy play out across Spark’s writing.
